From Excel to automated billing and customized data insights

From the beginning, the focus was on helping clients set up data environments for analytics. What began as a small company with an in-house, home-made Excel application for timekeeping - the NURD (Nippur Hours Registration Database) - soon ran into the limits of manual processes.

The challenge: growth outgrows Excel

As Nippur began to grow, managing the Excel-based timesheet became increasingly complex. Excel was fine for five people, but growing made it unwieldy, especially with management, new software versions and the risk that essential files were stored locally. The company needed a system that:

  • Could centralize timekeeping (by client, by project, by task).
  • Could secure contract agreements, hourly rates and master data on colleagues and clients.
  • Could provide invoicing directly from the hourly system.
  • Financially attractive and scalable.

The solution: ionBIZ as a central hub and partner in growth

As one of the first customers of ionBIZ, ionBIZ offered the functionalities Nippur needed, especially in the areas of time tracking and invoicing.


Core features in use:

  • Centralized time tracking and invoicing: This is still the core feature in use. ionBIZ allows for a tight process where employees record their hours, vacation balances and leave requests. This allows Nippur to get invoices out the door on the first day of every month and keep billing under tight control. The integration between the hour sheets and billing is a great strength, providing traceability and easy answers to billing questions from customers.
  • Ticketing and Service Contracts: Recently, Nippur started using ionBIZ's ticketing module for service contracts for their self-developed data platform product. This provides one place where customers can create tickets and those tickets can be linked to timekeeping and billing.
